Paperi & Peli
Paperi & Peli is an e-commerce project I developed as part of my Business Information Technology studies. The store is built with WooCommerce and sells printable games and activity ideas for different types of celebrations.
Business idea and market research
My goal for this project was to develop an e-commerce business for fully digital products.
This led to Paperi & Peli, a store focused on printable games for events such as weddings, baby showers, bachelorette parties,
and birthdays. The idea was inspired by a real-life need after creating
a printable bingo game for a friend’s bachelorette party.
The project started with market and keyword research using Ubersuggest, which showed growing demand for
instantly downloadable, Finnish-language party content, as well as clear purchase intent
in relevant search terms. Customers are looking for easy, affordable, and ready-to-use digital products for celebrations.
Competitor analysis
The competitor analysis revealed a clear gap in the market for Finnish-language,
visually appealing, and instantly downloadable printable games. While similar products exist,
they are often limited in selection and treated as side products.
Paperi & Peli’s competitive advantage lies in its Finnish-language content,
consistent visual style, and ease of use. All products are ready-to-print PDF files
that customers can download immediately after purchase, without shipping costs or waiting time.
Other considerations
In addition to building the online store, the project included product pricing, sales budgeting, payment service provider comparison, marketing planning, traffic source estimation, and consideration of logistics and customer service processes.
Technical implementation and design
The project focused on building a scalable and user-friendly e-commerce store for digital products.
The store was built using WordPress and WooCommerce to strengthen my e-commerce skills.
Development was done locally using Local WP and later deployed to Pantheon.io.
After comparing several themes, I chose the free Blocksy theme for its performance
and e-commerce support. Alongside WooCommerce, I used plugins such as
CookieYes, Coupon X, Loco Translate, and Checkout Field Editor
to support cookie compliance, promotions, translations, and checkout customization.
The visual style of the store is cheerful and playful, yet refined enough to appeal to wedding customers.
Fonts and layout are clean and modern. Due to time limitations, not all products were illustrated.
A wedding bingo draft and product mockups were created using Canva, while other images were sourced from Pexels.com.
Product descriptions and a sample blog post were written with the help of AI.
